Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are set in the Wombat forest an
easy 80 minutes drive (110 km) from Melbourne.
The area is renowned for its Mineral Waters which flow
continually from the 72 springs throughout the area.
Historically the towns were founded on gold diggings ,and over
time , there has been a population of mixed heritage settle the
area. Many Swiss-Italians arrived here when the gold was being
mined in the late 1800's
Aspects of this can be seen in the architecture ,festivals and
lifesyles .
The mineral waters, crisp clean air , forest, and abundance of
holistic healers attract people looking for relaxation and
healing of their aching bodies.
Scattered throughout the region is a multitude of
accommodation places --grand old guest houses ,motels ,caravan
parks,bed and breakfast cottages. a place to stay for all tastes.
Whether it is a walk through the forest ,or a massage in the spa
complex,a stroll by the lake or a walk along the historic
streets, stopping at one of the coffee shops Daylesford and
Hepburn Springs have something for everyone.

John Hepburn , a retired ships captain in 1837 said it was the
loveliest spot he had seen in his travels and declared that he
would spend the rest of his days here.
Hepburn Springs bath house has been restored to its former
Victorian grandeur and visitors can now relax in hot mineral
water, herbal mud , and bubble baths.
The town is overlooked by Wombat Hill , with its magnificent
Botanical Gardens which were originally planted in 1861.
The gardens are 9 hectares in area and in late February ,and
early March are ablaze with Begonias followed soon after by
magnificent Autumn colourings. 
Many of the tree specimens are listed on the register of
Significant Trees.
Many magnificent examples such as the Blue Cedar ,Elm ,Birch
,Cedar and Oak can be viewed while strolling along the paths.
The famous Convent Gallery at Daylesford which was the
Holy Cross Convent has won many awards It exhibits fine art,
fashion jewellery , sculpture and many other types of craft work
by locals. The Convent Gallery has a Mediterranean style
restaurant /café which is open every day.

This is one of the more popular lakes
with well maintained grass picnic areas ,set in a tranquil area.
There is ample car parking ,toilets,barbeques,walks,fishing
swimming and boat hire.
